Edge banders range from a benchtop gluing unit to a full automatic line with pre-milling and corner rounding, and the funding route changes across that range.

Yes, and edge banders are funded every week on hire purchase and finance lease. Machines from Homag, Brandt, Biesse, SCM, Holz-Her and Felder are treated as hard assets with a real resale market, and used examples with a service history are fundable. Where it gets more nuanced is at the bottom of the range: small portable or benchtop banders carry little recovery value and funders often treat them as soft, which means the decision rests almost entirely on your credit profile. The other trap is glue type — a machine specified for PUR needs the right glue pot on the invoice, not added later as a retrofit.
Used kit: Yes, typically to around twelve years with a service history

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Assessment splits by size. A full automatic bander with pre-milling, glue application, trimming, scraping and buffing is heavy, serial-numbered and sought after used, so it sits with mainstream hard asset funders and attracts sensible pricing. A compact single-sided machine sits in the middle. A benchtop or hand-held bander is effectively soft, and the funders who write those are underwriting your business rather than the equipment. What kills a deal is an invoice that mixes the machine with a year of tape, glue and consumables, because the funder cannot advance against materials that will be used up long before the agreement ends. Keep consumables on a separate order and the machine itself will place without difficulty.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Kitchen and bedroom manufacturers, shopfitters and trade board cutting services. The trigger is nearly always quality complaints or outsourcing cost: iron-on tape is failing on site, or the board supplier charges per metre for banding and the volume has reached the point where doing it in house pays for the machine. Shops that have just bought a nesting CNC buy a bander within the year because the CNC creates far more edged parts than they used to produce.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Usually, but the route is different. Low-value banders have almost no recovery value, so funders assess the decision on your trading history and credit rather than the machine. That tends to mean a quick decision on a director guarantee. If you are also buying a saw or a CNC, putting the bander on the same invoice is the easier and cheaper way to get it funded.
The starter pack that comes with the machine is fine. A bulk order of tape and glue is not, because consumables are consumed and leave nothing behind. Funders will strip them out or decline the invoice as presented. Order your materials separately and keep the finance agreement to the machine, the glue pot and any tooling supplied with it.
Yes. Brandt and Homag machines have a deep used market in the UK and across Europe, and refurbished units from a recognised dealer place comfortably. Funders will want to know the glue pot condition, whether it has been converted for PUR, and that the control panel is still supported. An independent auction purchase is possible but expect an inspection request.
It changes the machine spec more than the funding. PUR gives a near invisible, water-resistant joint and is increasingly demanded by contract clients, but it needs the right pot and a cleaning regime. If you think you will need PUR within the life of the agreement, specify it now. Retrofitting later means a second small agreement, which is expensive for what it is.
Yes, and it is common. Most funders will settle the existing agreement and roll the balance into a new one on the replacement machine, particularly where you are trading up with the same dealer. The important thing is knowing your settlement figure before you agree a part-exchange value, so the dealer discount and the settlement can be compared honestly.
