Timber kiln finance
Drying your own timber captures the margin between green and kiln-dried stock, but a kiln is part building and part machine, and the funding has to reflect that.

Can you finance a timber kiln?
Yes, with the important qualification that a kiln is not one asset. The chamber is effectively a building, while the fans, heaters, controls, boiler and doors are plant. Funders will advance against the plant and the control system without difficulty, but they cannot lend against a structure erected on land they have no claim over. So kiln projects get structured, not simply approved: the mechanical and control package goes on an equipment agreement, and the shell and groundwork are dealt with separately. Prefabricated container kilns are considerably easier because the whole unit can be lifted and moved.
Used kit: Rarely for the chamber itself; the fans, heaters and control systems yes

What would a timber kiln cost per month?
Asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what the buttons show, with the equivalent APR beside it. Your exact rate depends on the asset, the term, the deposit and the lender.
Prime is an established, profitable business with clean credit. Specialist covers newer businesses and credit that needs explaining — the asset itself carries part of the risk, which is why finance is often available where an unsecured loan is not.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 5.15% flat rate (equivalent to 9.9% APR representative), you would repay around £628 a month; total amount repayable approximately £30,150, of which £5,150 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and will receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval.
Rates shown are indicative flat rates with the equivalent APR alongside — the two are not the same number. Indicative only and does not constitute a quote or an offer of finance. Subject to status and lender approval.
How lenders treat it
The fixture question dominates. A masonry or panel kiln chamber built on your yard is real estate in a funder eyes, so the advance has to attach to the fan sets, heater batteries, humidity and moisture control systems, doors and the boiler. Those are identifiable, valuable and removable, which is enough to build a facility around. Container and modular kilns fund much more readily because the entire unit is portable and can be sold complete. Biomass boilers bring their own questions about installation and any incentive scheme income. Expect the underwriter to look for an explanation of the drying volume and the price uplift you are chasing, because a kiln is a bigger commitment than most timber businesses make, and they want to see the arithmetic.
Makes and models we fund
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Who buys one
Sawmills and timber merchants selling into joinery, and hardwood specialists whose customers will not accept air-dried stock. The economics are the trigger: kiln-dried timber commands a materially different price and stops your capital sitting in a stack for two years. Heat treatment chambers get bought for a different reason entirely, which is compliance with ISPM 15 for pallets and packaging going for export.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Timber kiln finance questions
Can the kiln building itself be financed?
Not through an equipment agreement, because a structure built on your land cannot be recovered by a funder. The plant inside it can be. If the shell is a large part of the cost, it usually needs a different facility running alongside the equipment finance, which is a conversation to have before you commit to a supplier.
Are container kilns easier to fund?
Considerably. A self-contained modular unit is a single removable asset with a resale identity, which is exactly what a funder wants. It can be craned onto a lorry and sold to another mill. That makes the advance simpler and the underwriting quicker than a chamber built in situ.
Can I finance a biomass boiler with the kiln?
Usually yes, as plant. Where the boiler is installed into a building the fixture question arises again, so it helps if it sits in its own housing or container. If any incentive or tariff income is attached, disclose it, because funders will want to understand how it affects the numbers you are presenting.
What about heat treatment for export pallets?
Heat treatment chambers fund in the same way as drying kilns, with the plant advancing and the structure treated separately. Because the driver is compliance rather than margin, the business case is often easier to explain: without treatment you cannot ship. That clarity helps an underwriter get comfortable.
How long do kiln projects take to arrange?
Longer than a machine purchase, because there is more to unpick. Quotes have to be split between plant and building, planning or environmental consents may apply, and lead times on chambers are long. Bring us in at the quotation stage rather than once everything is ordered and the deposit has been paid.
