Asset finance broker

An asset finance broker arranges the finance rather than providing it. We are a credit broker, not a lender — we do not lend our own money. We take your requirement to a panel of more than 60 lenders and arrange the facility with whichever of them fits your circumstances best.

Why that is different from going direct

One lender gives you one answer. If your bank declines, that is the end of that conversation — it does not mean the deal is not fundable, only that it does not fit that bank’s criteria. Three things follow from using a broker instead:

  • Coverage. Different lenders have appetite for different trades and asset types. The funder who is comfortable with a used tractor is rarely the one who is comfortable with soft assets like IT equipment.
  • Time. Applying to lenders one at a time, and being declined one at a time, takes weeks and leaves footprints on your credit file. Knowing the criteria before applying is most of the work.
  • Judgement. Eighteen years in the motor trade and asset finance means knowing which cases fund and which do not — and saying so early when the answer is likely to be no.

When a broker is worth it

Not every deal needs one. If you are buying a mainstream asset, you have strong filed accounts and your own bank has already said yes on terms you are happy with, there may be nothing to add. A broker earns its place when the case is not straightforward:

  • The asset is specialist, used, imported, or being bought from a private seller.
  • The business is new, or the filed accounts do not reflect how it is trading now.
  • You are a sole trader or a partnership rather than a limited company.
  • There is adverse credit history, or the bank has already declined.
  • The structure matters — hire purchase against a lease, or refinancing an asset you already own to release capital.

How we work

  1. You tell us the asset and the business. What you are buying, roughly what it costs, and who is buying it.
  2. We work out who will look at it. This is the part that saves the credit footprints — matching the case to lenders whose criteria it already fits, rather than applying and finding out.
  3. You get an indicative decision. In as little as 24 hours. An indicative decision is not an offer of finance.
  4. The lender assesses it properly. Documents, and the lender’s own underwriting. Every application is subject to the lender’s own assessment.

Common questions

What does an asset finance broker do?

A broker arranges the finance rather than providing it. You describe the asset and the business behind it; the broker works out which lenders have appetite for that combination, presents the case to them, and arranges the facility with whichever one fits. The alternative is approaching lenders yourself, one at a time, without knowing their criteria in advance.

Is CW Asset Finance a lender or a broker?

A credit broker, not a lender. We do not lend our own money. We take your requirement to a panel of more than 60 lenders and arrange the facility with whichever of them fits your circumstances best. That matters practically: a bank can only offer you its own products, on its own criteria — if you do not fit, the answer is no.

Why use a broker instead of going direct to a lender?

Because one lender gives you one answer and a broker gives you the market. If your bank declines, that is the end of that conversation — it does not mean the deal is not fundable, only that it does not fit that bank’s criteria. There are three practical reasons: coverage, because different lenders have appetite for different trades and assets; time, because applying one at a time and being declined one at a time takes weeks and leaves footprints on your credit file; and judgement, because knowing the criteria before applying is most of the job.

Does using a broker cost me anything?

We are a credit broker, not a lender, and we will receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. That is how the arrangement is paid for and it is disclosed on every page of this site.

What can you fund, and from how much?

Vehicles, machinery, plant and business equipment across 28 sectors — from tractors and telehandlers to CNC machines, commercial vehicles, catering and medical equipment. We arrange finance from £10,000.

How quickly can I get an answer?

Indicative decisions in as little as 24 hours. An indicative decision is not an offer of finance — every application is subject to the lender’s own assessment.

Will you be able to get my deal funded?

Sometimes the honest answer is no, and it is better to hear it early. Eighteen years in the motor trade and asset finance means we generally know which cases fund and which do not, and we will tell you which yours looks like. Nothing on this page is a guarantee of acceptance — every application is subject to the lender’s own assessment.
