Bringing crown and bridge work in house means a mill, a furnace and a workflow — and funders look at each of those quite differently.

Yes. Milling machines are among the better dental assets to fund because they are freestanding industrial equipment with a real resale market, unlike anything plumbed into a surgery. Chairside mills, laboratory five-axis machines, sintering furnaces and resin printers are all routinely written. The catch is the workflow around them: the CAM software, the nesting licences and the design training are often a substantial slice of the quote and largely cannot be capitalised. Buyers also underestimate compressed air quality and extraction requirements, which arrive as separate invoices the funder may not carry.
Used kit: Yes — used mills and furnaces are fundable, commonly up to around seven years old, particularly where the dealer has replaced spindles and provides a warranty.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Underwriters like the hardware here. A five-axis mill from a known manufacturer is movable, serial numbered, and has buyers in the trade, so recovery value is decent and appetite is broader than for fixed surgery equipment. Where a practice buys the mill, the dentist covenant carries it easily. Where a laboratory buys it, the funder switches mode entirely and looks at it as a small manufacturing business: margin, debtor days, and how much of turnover comes from a single corporate group. Losing one contract can sink a lab, and funders know it. Declines tend to come from labs with heavy customer concentration, from applicants buying grey-market machines with no UK service agent, and from quotes where software and training swamp the hardware value.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Two distinct buyers. Practices with a strong restorative list installing a chairside mill so crowns can be delivered in one visit, and commercial dental laboratories replacing ageing machines or adding capacity because a corporate client has committed volume. Laboratories are a genuinely different credit to practices, with thinner margins, no professional registration to lean on and real customer concentration risk, and they get underwritten accordingly.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Not quite. A lab has no professional registration to lean on and is assessed as a small manufacturer, so filed accounts, margins and customer spread matter far more. Good labs are funded every week, but expect a fuller information request than a dentist buying the same machine would face.
A perpetual seat bought on the same invoice often is. Annual subscription seats and per-unit nesting licences are not, because they are ongoing services with nothing to recover. Ask your supplier to itemise the quote so we approach funders with an accurate hardware figure from the outset.
Not necessarily separately, but they do need to be on the schedule. Dry milling needs clean, dry air and dust extraction, and buyers regularly discover this after the machine is ordered. Put the compressor, dryer and extraction on the same quote and it can usually all sit in one facility.
Yes. Funders prefer a single schedule listing several related assets over multiple small agreements, and a mill, furnace and printer bought together make a coherent package. It also gets the facility to a size where more of the market will look at it. Just make sure every item is on one invoice, or at least invoiced by the same supplier on the same date.
With hire purchase you pay a nominal option-to-purchase fee at the end and the machine becomes yours, which suits equipment you intend to keep and run into the ground. Leasing works differently and typically ends with a return or a rollover. Which is right depends on how long you expect to keep the machine.
