Yes. A programmable guillotine is a hard asset and funds on hire purchase without difficulty. These machines last decades, the used market is active, and a funder can value one easily, which makes them some of the most straightforward print equipment to place. Second-hand guillotines are funded as a matter of course. The one thing to flag early is safety certification: a used guillotine needs to meet current guarding and two-hand control requirements, and any upgrade work to bring it up to standard is a service cost sitting outside the finance agreement.
Used kit: Yes — used guillotines fund comfortably and machines twenty years old are still considered where guarding meets current standards and the knife bar is sound.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Guillotines are among the easiest assets in print to underwrite. The mechanics are robust, serial numbers are clear, the second-hand market is well established through UK dealers, and values fall gently rather than off a cliff. That means longer terms and a relaxed view of age. Blades and sharpening are consumables. Air tables, jogger lifts and stack lifts quoted separately are their own assets and can be added to the same agreement. Guillotines are free-standing and rarely become fixtures, which keeps tenants simple. The main underwriting question is not the machine but whether the buyer has the volume to justify it, and the rare decline usually reflects a thin trading record rather than the asset.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Typically a printer whose ageing manual guillotine is causing waste and slowing make-ready, moving to a programmable machine with a memory so a junior can run the same job accurately. Also finishing departments adding a second cutter to remove a queue at one machine, and litho printers buying a wider guillotine after taking on larger sheet sizes.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
A funder will not usually insist on one, but your own duty of care does. Two-hand controls, light guards and a functioning brake are the essentials. Any remedial work is a service charge outside the agreement, so price it in before you settle on a machine.
Yes, when they are quoted alongside the guillotine. A lift, jogger and air table are individually identifiable assets with their own resale value, so a funder is content to include them. Buying them later means either a second agreement or an addition to the existing one.
Because the depreciation curve is much flatter. A guillotine that is fifteen years old is still a working machine with a market value, whereas print technology moves and takes value with it. Funders match the term to the realistic life, so mechanical assets get more room.
Rarely on mechanical grounds. The limits tend to be practical: no spares availability, obsolete controls that cannot be serviced, or guarding that cannot economically be brought up to standard. Confirm parts support with the dealer before you commit and age itself is seldom the obstacle.
Yes. An owned, unencumbered guillotine is good refinance security precisely because its value holds. A funder will want the original invoice, the serial number and confirmation there is no existing charge, and the machine keeps working throughout with no disruption to your schedule.
