A wide belt sander is what turns an acceptable panel into a finished one, and it is usually bought the moment a shop starts spraying its own work.

Yes. Wide belt and calibrating sanders are funded as hard assets on hire purchase or finance lease, and makes such as SCM Sandya, Viet, Costa, Buetfering and Steinemann are well known to funders. Used machines around fifteen years old fund where the contact roller and platen have been rebuilt. The detail that trips people up is the ancillary plant. A wide belt sander demands substantial dust extraction to work at all, and the extractor is frequently quoted separately. Get it on the machine invoice, because a standalone filter unit is a poor funding proposition by itself.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. Sanders sit comfortably in the hard asset bracket. They are heavy, static, serial-numbered and traded actively second hand, particularly the Italian makes, so underwriters see an exit. The one area they probe is condition rather than age: platens, contact rollers, conveyor belts and the pneumatic sectional head are wear items, and a tired machine is worth far less than its year suggests. Refurbishment evidence from a dealer resolves that quickly. Deals generally go through mainstream asset funders, with vendor schemes available on new machines from the major suppliers. The recurring problem is invoices that bundle a year of abrasive belts with the machine. Belts are consumables, they will be gone long before the agreement ends, and funders strip them out.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Furniture makers, staircase and door manufacturers, and panel shops that have brought finishing in house. The usual trigger is a spray booth arriving: hand sanding cannot produce a consistent enough surface to justify the finish, and the rework is destroying the margin. Solid timber shops buy them for glued-up panels and worktops, where calibrating to a constant thickness is the whole point.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Yes, and it must be properly sized. A wide belt sander produces a continuous volume of fine dust that will blind the belt and wreck the finish if it is not removed. Undersized extraction also puts you offside on LEV. Specify the extractor with the machine and keep both on one invoice so they fund together.
Only the set that comes fitted with the machine. A bulk order of abrasive belts is a consumable with no residual value and funders will remove it from the invoice. Buy them on your normal trade account. Keeping the agreement clean to the machine itself also gets the case approved faster.
Not if the wear parts have been addressed. Ask about the contact roller, the platen and graphite, the conveyor belt and whether the sectional head still holds pressure. A dealer-refurbished machine with those items replaced funds without fuss. A machine sold as seen with unknown hours is where funders start asking for inspections.
Yes, and it is worth doing as one project. The two are bought for the same reason and a combined proposal reads better than two separate applications. It also lets us put the stronger hard asset alongside the booth, which is a weaker security on its own, and get the whole finishing line funded on one agreement.
Buy for the widest panel you realistically make, not the one you make today. Shops routinely outgrow a narrow sander within a couple of years and then face settling an agreement early to trade up. Since the funding cost difference between widths is far smaller than the cost of replacing the machine, size it generously.
