Artificial pitch maintenance equipment finance
Synthetic pitches need brushing, decompaction and rubber crumb cleaning to stay certified, and the machines that do it fund as specialist plant.

Can you finance artificial pitch maintenance equipment?
Yes. Brushes, drag mats, decompactors and rubber crumb cleaning machines for 3G and artificial surfaces fund as hard assets. The machines are specialist but well established, and used units are fundable. The point that catches operators out is that maintenance on a synthetic pitch is not optional — surfacing warranties and governing body certification usually depend on a documented maintenance regime, so the equipment is closer to a compliance requirement than a discretionary purchase. That argument, put in writing, strengthens a finance application rather than weakening it.
Used kit: Yes — used synthetic maintenance machines fund, generally to around eight years old, though the resale pool is narrower than for golf equipment.

What would artificial pitch maintenance equipment cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it
This is a maintenance obligation dressed as an equipment purchase, and funders who understand the sector treat it that way. A pitch that loses its test certificate cannot host sanctioned matches, so the machinery underpins the venue’s income rather than merely tidying it, and an underwriter shown the certification requirement reads the application more favourably. The asset itself is niche: Wiedenmann, Redexim and SISIS synthetic kit resells, but into a smaller pool than golf machinery, so advances are a little more conservative. Most applicants are either facility operators, whose hire income is visible and can be evidenced with a booking schedule, or contractors, who are judged on the number of venues on a maintenance round rather than on one flagship site. Leisure trusts and charitable operators are common and are assessed on reserves and grant income alongside trading. Declines tend to follow single-pitch operators with short leases.

Who buys one
Operators of 3G pitches at football clubs, schools and community hubs who have been paying a specialist contractor per visit and found the annual bill comparable to owning the kit. Also facilities management companies with several sites, and contractors building a synthetic surface maintenance round across schools and leisure trusts. The prompt is often a test report flagging compaction or low infill depth ahead of a certification renewal.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Artificial pitch maintenance equipment finance questions
Will the certification requirement help our application?
It can, if you evidence it. A funder seeing that your pitch must be maintained to a documented standard to retain its test certificate understands that the machine protects income. Include the requirement and your maintenance schedule with the application rather than mentioning it in passing.
Is owning cheaper than paying a contractor per visit?
Often, once you pass a certain number of visits a year, but it depends on your labour. Owning the machine means someone on your team has to use it properly. Run the comparison on both cost and staff time before deciding, not on the machine price alone.
Can infill rubber or sand be included?
No. Infill material top-ups are consumables and sit outside asset finance. Only the machinery can be funded. Rejuvenation projects that replace infill wholesale are a project cost and would be looked at differently, so tell us if that is what you are planning. Rejuvenation work and equipment purchase are usually best kept as separate facilities.
We are a leisure trust rather than a company. Does that work?
Yes. Charitable trusts and community interest companies fund equipment regularly. The funder looks at reserves, grant income and trading alongside the usual accounts, and will want to see the governing documents and evidence of who is authorised to sign. Gathering the paperwork is usually the longest part of the process for a trust.
Our lease on the site has five years left. Is that a problem?
It may limit the term a funder will offer, because they are reluctant to fund equipment beyond your tenure of the site it serves. Machinery is movable, which helps, but be ready for the question and know your lease position before you apply. A landlord willing to extend the term changes the picture considerably.
