Bunker rake finance
Ride-on bunker rakes groom sand, level faces and save hours of hand raking, and they fund as compact self-propelled turf machines.

Can you finance a bunker rake?
Yes. Ride-on bunker rakes fund as hard assets on hire purchase or lease. They are compact but self-propelled and serial-numbered, and the Toro Sand Pro and John Deere bunker rake families have a dependable used market, so funders are comfortable with them. Second-hand machines place well. The detail that catches clubs is the attachments — blades, cultivators, brooms and plough frames are how these machines earn their keep beyond raking, and if they are invoiced as accessories after delivery they cannot be added to the agreement.
Used kit: Yes — used bunker rakes fund comfortably, typically up to around eight years old with reasonable hours and a service history.

What would a bunker rake cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it
These are a known quantity to turf funders and rarely cause difficulty on the asset side. The machines are light, cheap to move and always in demand second hand, because every course has bunkers and every bunker rake eventually wears out. Underwriting comes down to the club’s financial shape and how many agreements it already carries. Members’ clubs benefit from recurring subscription income and are assessed on renewal rates and reserves rather than headline profit. Proprietary courses are read on green fee and event income, and a venue that has had two poor summers will be asked how it managed. Repayments can be weighted into the playing season when bunkers are actually being raked. The usual decline is a club with existing arrears, or one applying for a fourth agreement in the same year without the income to support the stack.

Who buys one
Clubs where bunker presentation has become a members’ complaint, or where a bunker renovation project has just doubled the area that needs grooming. Also courses losing greenkeeping hours to hand raking on a busy tee sheet, and resort and proprietary venues where sand condition is part of what the green fee is paying for. In most cases the old machine is still running but the attachments are worn out.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Bunker rake finance questions
Can the attachments be financed with the machine?
Yes, if they are on the same invoice. Blades, cultivators, brooms and plough frames are a large part of what makes the machine useful, and clubs regularly underfund by leaving them off the original order. Specify everything you want at quotation stage. Adding them later means paying for them out of cash.
Do we need one rake per course or can one cover two?
That is an operational decision, but funders will notice if a machine is being shared between sites, particularly if the sites belong to different legal entities. If two clubs under common ownership are sharing, say so up front so the agreement names the right party.
How does a bunker renovation project affect the application?
Positively, if you explain it. A funder reading accounts that show significant capital spend wants context. A documented bunker programme with a clear rationale is a better story than unexplained expenditure, so tell us and we will put it in front of the underwriter. Committee minutes recording the decision are useful supporting evidence.
Are electric bunker rakes funded the same way?
Yes, with the same caveat that applies across battery turf machinery: the used market is younger and battery condition is harder to verify at distance. It very rarely affects approval, but it can affect how a funder views the machine towards the end of the term.
We already have three agreements running. Will a fourth be approved?
It depends on the total commitment against your income, not the number of agreements. Funders look at the aggregate. If the stack is getting heavy we may suggest consolidating some of it rather than adding another line, and we will tell you if that is the sensible route.
