Can you finance a greens roller?
Yes. Greens rollers fund as hard assets, though they sit at the compact end of the scale so a single machine may be better packaged with other equipment from the same order. Used rollers are fundable and hold value well because the mechanics are simple and the demand from bowls and cricket venues is steady alongside golf. The point worth knowing is that rollers are frequently bought on the strength of a tournament week, and funders will ask what the machine does for the other fifty-one — a fair question, and easy to answer if you roll routinely.
Used kit: Yes — used greens rollers fund, generally up to around seven or eight years old where the roller heads and drive are sound.

What would a greens roller cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it
Rollers are smaller value than most turf machines, so they sit near the line where funders start thinking about the covenant rather than the kit. The saving grace is that they are self-propelled, serial-numbered and genuinely resaleable to three different sports, which keeps them classed as hard assets rather than soft. A club with strong subscription income clears this easily. A small bowls or cricket club with unincorporated status and a treasurer’s statement rather than filed accounts is a harder conversation, and the funder may look for personal support from officers. Contractors are assessed on the breadth of their venue list. Because the value is modest the funder choice narrows on a standalone purchase, which is exactly when a broker route pays — some funders simply will not look at it, others will.

Who buys one
Head greenkeepers under pressure to deliver consistent green speed without cutting lower and stressing the sward, typically ahead of a county or open week. Also bowling greens preparing for competition season and cricket grounds where the square is expected to perform for a fixed fixture list, and contractors covering several small venues. The buy is frequently triggered by a fixture being awarded and a date on the calendar that cannot move.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Greens roller finance questions
Is one roller enough to finance on its own?
It is close to the practical minimum for many funders. If you are ordering other machinery the same year, packaging it makes the application stronger and the process simpler. If it is genuinely a single purchase, we will still place it — the choice of funder is just narrower.
Do bowls and cricket clubs fund these the same way?
The product is the same but the underwriting is different. Small sports clubs are often unincorporated with modest accounts, so the funder looks at membership, the constitution and sometimes asks officers to support the agreement. Have the committee discuss that before applying. Membership numbers and the state of the reserves do most of the work.
Will rolling instead of cutting save us money overall?
That is an agronomy question and we would not pretend otherwise. What we can say is that clubs usually buy a roller alongside, not instead of, a mower. If it is replacing cutting frequency, the greenkeeper should make that case to the committee, not the finance.
Can a roller be added to a mower order already placed?
If the dealer can amend the order and issue one invoice covering both, yes. Once the mower has been delivered and invoiced it is too late to fold the roller into that agreement, though we can arrange a separate facility alongside it. Ask the dealer whether the original order can still be amended.
Are trailed rollers funded like self-propelled ones?
They are a lower value asset without their own drive, so they are best funded with the machine that tows them. A self-propelled roller stands alone more comfortably because it is a complete machine with an engine and a serial number of its own. If you are funding the tow vehicle anyway, put both together.
