Cricket square equipment finance
Square preparation needs a roller, a fine turf mower and renovation kit, and cricket clubs almost always fund them as one package.

Can you finance cricket square equipment?
Yes, and packaging is usually the right way to do it. Individually a cricket roller, a pedestrian mower and a scarifier are modest purchases that some funders will not write alone, but together they form an agreement of sensible size. Used equipment is widely funded in cricket — heavy rollers in particular last for decades and are traded between clubs constantly. The point that catches committees out is legal status: most cricket clubs are unincorporated, and funders will want the constitution, a committee resolution and identification for the signing officers.
Used kit: Yes — used cricket equipment funds well, and heavy rollers in particular are accepted at considerable age because they barely depreciate.

What would cricket square equipment cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
How lenders treat it
Cricket is a sector where the buyer profile drives everything, because the machinery is inexpensive and the organisations are small. Most applicants are unincorporated members’ clubs with a treasurer’s statement rather than audited accounts, so an underwriter looks at playing membership, bar and match fee income, any grant funding secured, and the length of time the club has existed — a hundred-year-old club with two hundred members is a reassuring read even on small numbers. Officers are often asked to support the agreement personally and committees should agree that before applying rather than at signing. Independent schools and county grounds are a different and much simpler proposition. Heavy rollers hold value remarkably well and are genuinely saleable, which helps. Declines come from clubs with no accounts, no constitution to hand, and nobody willing to sign.

Who buys one
Club groundsmen preparing squares for a league fixture list with equipment inherited from the 1980s, usually pushed into action when a pitch is reported or a league inspection raises concerns. Also independent schools running multiple squares, and county age-group venues where the standard expected has risen faster than the equipment budget. Clubs promoted into a higher league are the most common buyers of a full square package.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Cricket square equipment finance questions
What will the funder want from an unincorporated club?
The constitution or rules, recent accounts or a treasurer’s statement, a minuted committee resolution authorising the purchase and the finance, and identification for the officers signing. Get these together before applying — assembling them is usually what delays cricket applications, not underwriting. Most clubs already hold all of it somewhere in the secretary’s files.
Will officers have to guarantee it personally?
Sometimes, particularly where accounts are modest or the club is young. It is a common condition rather than an unusual one, but it is something the committee should discuss and agree in advance. We will tell you whether it is likely before you apply, not after.
Can covers and sight screens be financed?
Covers can sit on a package agreement if they are on the same invoice as machinery. Sight screens and fixed structures are harder because they are site fixtures rather than movable plant. Put the whole shopping list to us and we will tell you what is fundable.
Is a forty-year-old roller really fundable?
A heavy roller can be. They are simple, they last, and they hold value in a way almost nothing else does, so funders are unusually relaxed about age. It still needs a proper invoice and proof the seller owns it, which matters on club-to-club sales.
Does grant funding affect the application?
Positively, and you should mention it. A confirmed grant covering part of the cost reduces what needs funding and shows an underwriter that an external body has assessed the club. Bring the award letter — the timing of grant payments can also be built into the structure.
