Yes. A digital press is funded as a hard asset, normally on hire purchase or a lease with the press itself standing as the security, so most printers do not need to put up property. Used and ex-demo presses are fundable where the serial number, click count and service history stack up. The thing that catches printers out is the click charge: a funder pays for the metal, not for the per-impression service agreement that sits alongside it, so send the full dealer quotation rather than the headline machine price and we will tell you which lines are actually fundable.
Used kit: Yes — dealer refurbished and ex-demo presses fund well, and machines of roughly five to eight years old are routine where click counts and service records are clean.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. Funders treat the press body as hard. There is a real second-hand market through dealers and export, and that resale route matters more to an underwriter than the badge on the front. Everything around it goes soft: RIP and colour management licences, training days, and finishing modules that are really consumables. Digital print also depreciates faster than most machinery because the technology moves, so a funder wants the term sitting comfortably inside the working life of the press rather than running past it. Declines cluster around presses bought from an overseas seller with no UK service cover, and around printers whose click contract sits with a third party the lender cannot see.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Usually a commercial printer of five to thirty staff replacing an ageing toner press because click costs have crept up and colour is drifting on brand work. Also litho houses bolting on short-run digital so they stop turning away runs of two hundred, and design studios pulling proofing and sampling back in house after a trade supplier lets them down once too often.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Normally no. The click or cost-per-copy agreement is a service contract with the manufacturer or dealer and it is billed on usage, so there is nothing for a funder to take security over. The press, feeder and finishing towers go on the agreement; the clicks stay on your monthly supplier invoice.
Not really, and it is often the sharper buy. A funder wants the serial number, the impression count and confirmation that the dealer warranty carries over to you. Because an ex-demo machine has already taken its first hit on value, underwriters are usually comfortable with it as security.
No. Asset finance on a press is secured on the machine, not on property. Being a tenant is completely normal in commercial print. A funder will ask how long you have been trading and will want the installation address, but renting your unit is not a barrier on its own.
That is common and it is worked out at quotation stage. We ask your existing funder for a settlement figure and look at whether the part-exchange value from the dealer clears it. Any shortfall has to be dealt with before the new agreement completes, so it is better raised early than late.
Yes, through asset refinance. If the press is paid for and free of any charge, a funder can advance against its current value and take security over it while the machine carries on running. Provenance still matters, so have the original invoice and service history to hand.
