Can you finance an embroidery machine?

Yes. Commercial embroidery machines are excellent finance assets and fund on hire purchase with ease. Build quality from the established Japanese manufacturers is high, machines run for decades and the used market is genuinely liquid, so underwriters can value them confidently. Second-hand multi-heads are funded routinely. The one thing that surprises buyers is the digitising side: the software licence, the training and any outsourced digitising are soft costs, and the hooping frames and caps are consumable tooling, so the agreement covers the machine and very little else.

Used kit: Yes — used embroidery machines fund very comfortably and units twelve to fifteen years old are regularly funded where stitch counts and servicing are documented.

What would an embroidery machine cost per month?

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. How lenders treat it

Embroidery is one of the safest assets in textile decoration from a funder point of view. The major brands have deep second-hand demand across the UK and Europe, spares stay available for many years, and a serial number identifies a machine precisely. Values decline gently, so longer terms are available than in digital print. Needles, bobbins, backing, thread and hoops are consumables. Digitising software is a soft cost and subscription versions cannot be funded at all. Machines are free-standing on their own frames, so fixtures rarely come up even in leased units. The most common reason for a decline is a start-up with no decoration history buying more heads than the order book justifies.

Who buys one

Typically a workwear or teamwear supplier whose single-head cannot keep pace with school and corporate orders, moving to a four or six head to cut a two week lead time down to days. Also uniform companies bringing embroidery back from an outsourcer after quality complaints, and print businesses adding embroidery so they can quote a full branded clothing package in one go.

How it is treated for tax

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.

Embroidery machine finance questions

Can digitising software be included?

A perpetual licence bought with the machine on the same invoice can sometimes be carried, though it is a soft cost and some funders strip it out. An annual subscription cannot be funded at all, because there is no asset and nothing to recover. Budget for it separately to be safe.

Are cap frames and hoops part of the deal?

Usually not. Frames, hoops and cap drivers are tooling: they wear, they get replaced and they hold little resale value on their own. Where they are bundled into the machine price by the dealer they may ride along, but do not count on it being funded as a separate line.

How does the number of heads affect things?

Mostly through deal size and how easily the machine sells on. Multi-heads carry higher values, which comfortably clears minimum agreement sizes, and six and eight head machines from major brands are in constant demand second-hand. A single-head may need bundling with other equipment.

Is a machine from fifteen years ago really still fundable?

Often yes, for this asset. Embroidery machines are built to run for tens of millions of stitches and the good brands keep parts available for a very long time. A funder will want service records and a stitch count, and will set the term to match the remaining life.

Can I raise finance against machines I already own to buy another?

Yes. Refinancing owned, unencumbered embroidery machines releases cash you can put towards the next purchase or towards stock. Because these machines hold their value, they tend to refinance better than digital print equipment of the same age.
