Can you finance a greens mower?
Yes. Greens mowers, triples and fairway units are funded on hire purchase or lease, and used machines are financed well past their first owner because the second-hand golf machinery market is deep and predictable. Lenders are comfortable with the asset; what they look at is the club or contractor behind it, since golf income is seasonal and a members’ club is a different credit proposition from a proprietary course.

What would a greens mower cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
How lenders treat it
Turf machinery has a deep, well-documented used market and dealers who maintain their own fleets, so lenders are comfortable with used machines and with terms to five years. Clubs are typically incorporated or constituted bodies rather than sole traders, which usually puts the agreement outside the Consumer Credit Act. Deposits are common here for a reason that has nothing to do with credit: a club sitting on reserves often prefers to put money down to keep the annual charge inside an agreed budget.

Who buys one
Members' clubs, proprietary courses and grounds contractors. Club purchases are different from most asset finance: the decision is made by a committee on a budget cycle, so the timing is fixed long before the machine is chosen, and the finance has to fit a financial year rather than a delivery date.

Read the case study →How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Greens mower finance questions
Can a golf club finance used machinery?
Yes, and many prefer to. A used greens mower from a dealer fleet with documented servicing is straightforward to fund, and the saving against new is often what makes the purchase possible within a club budget.
Does a members' club qualify for asset finance?
Yes. Clubs are funded regularly. The practical difference from a trading company is governance: decisions go through a committee, so the paperwork usually needs to name who is authorised to sign.
Why would a club put down a deposit it does not need to?
To control the annual charge. A larger deposit reduces the yearly cost into whatever the committee has approved, which matters more to a club on a budget cycle than the total cost of finance does.
How long should a club keep greens machinery?
Greens machinery is replaced on cutting hours and cut quality rather than on age, so clubs tend to trade a unit back to the dealer while it still has residual value rather than running it into the ground. The sensible approach is to match the agreement to how long you actually intend to keep it, which we will work through with you.
