Mounted and towed blowers move leaves, cores and grass clippings at a speed no hand tool matches, and the larger units fund as plant.

Can you finance a turf blower?

Yes, with a size threshold. Tractor-mounted and towed turf blowers such as the Wiedenmann Mega Twister are proper machines and fund as hard assets. Handheld and backpack blowers are tools, not assets, and no funder will write an agreement for them. Used mounted blowers are fundable. The point that catches clubs out is that a blower is bought for a six-week window each autumn, and while that is a perfectly good reason to own one, it is worth checking that the machine will not simply displace labour you are paying for anyway.

Used kit: Yes for mounted and towed machines, commonly up to around eight years old. No for handheld and backpack units, which are treated as tools.

What would a turf blower cost per month?

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. How lenders treat it

Blowers divide into two clear camps for an underwriter, and knowing which side you are on saves time. A PTO-driven or towed machine is hard plant with a serial number and a resale market among contractors and councils, and funds without fuss. Handheld equipment is a consumable tool and falls outside asset finance entirely, no matter how many units are being bought. On the larger machines the credit view follows the usual pattern for seasonal kit: the funder wants to know that the payments are supported year-round even though the machine works for a few weeks. Contractors with autumn clearance contracts across several sites present well; a single-site operator buying for one customer does not. Bundling a blower with other autumn renovation kit on one agreement generally produces a better outcome than funding it alone.

Who buys one

Parkland courses with mature tree cover where autumn clear-up has been swallowing the entire greenkeeping week, and clubs that have just finished coring and need cores and dressing moved before play resumes. Also grounds contractors with autumn clearance contracts across schools and parks, and estates managing long drives and car parks. The purchase tends to follow a season when leaf fall arrived early and everything else slipped.

How it is treated for tax

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.

Turf blower finance questions

Can we finance a batch of backpack blowers?

No. Handheld and backpack equipment is a consumable tool regardless of quantity, and funders will not treat it as an asset. Buy those outright. If you are also buying a mounted machine, put your capital into the small items and finance the large one. That is usually the most sensible split of a groundcare budget.

Is a towed blower better than a mounted one for funding?

Both are fine. A towed unit is a complete standalone asset which slightly simplifies matters; a mounted unit depends on having a suitable tractor. The practical difference is smaller than the operational one, so choose the machine that suits the site. Buy what fits the ground and we will fund whichever it turns out to be.

It only works six weeks a year. Will a funder object?

Not object, but they may ask. Seasonal use is normal in this sector and underwriters understand it. What they want is confidence that the payments are covered in the other forty-six weeks, which for a club with subscription income is an easy question to answer.

Can it go on the same agreement as an aerator?

Yes, and we would encourage it. Autumn renovation kit bought in one order — aerator, blower, seeder, dresser — funds better as a single package than as a series of small applications, and it means one credit search rather than several. It also gets the whole autumn programme signed off in one go.

Do noise restrictions affect anything?

Not the finance, but they may affect your choice of machine. Courses near housing increasingly specify low-noise models for early morning work. That is a purchasing decision for the club, and the quieter machines fund on exactly the same basis as the standard ones. Several clubs now specify low-noise machines purely to keep neighbours onside.
