Pedestrian mower finance
Walk-behind cylinder mowers are low-value individually, so they are usually funded as a set rather than one machine at a time.

Can you finance a pedestrian mower?
Yes, though how it is done matters. A single pedestrian mower is a small-ticket item and many funders will not write an agreement for one machine on its own. The practical route is to fund a set — three or four walk-behinds for greens, or a pedestrian package alongside a larger machine — on one agreement. Used units are fundable but the market is less transparent than for ride-ons, so funders lean on the dealer invoice. The catch is that interchangeable cassettes and cartridges are often billed separately and will not be advanced against unless they are on the same invoice.
Used kit: Yes, but selectively — used pedestrian mowers fund best in sets or as part of a larger order, and funders prefer dealer-supplied machines under about six years old.

What would a pedestrian mower cost per month?
Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
How lenders treat it
This is where the asset class changes character. Individually these machines are small-ticket and some funders treat them as soft assets, which means tighter terms and more weight on the covenant than on the kit. Bundling several units onto one agreement moves the deal back into normal territory and widens the funder choice considerably. Bowls and cricket clubs are often unincorporated with modest accounts, so the underwriter looks at membership numbers, the constitution and sometimes asks the officers to support the agreement personally. Golf clubs buying pedestrians alongside a triple get the benefit of the larger asset carrying the application. What gets declined is a single low-value machine for a club with no filed accounts and no trading history.

Who buys one
Greenkeepers who have moved back to hand-cutting greens for tournament weeks, bowls clubs replacing a tired set before the season opens, and cricket grounds cutting squares where a ride-on cannot go. Also head groundsmen at independent schools who have one machine covering cricket, bowls and a show lawn and have finally been given a budget to replace the lot. Replacement is usually agreed over the winter, before the first cut of the season.

How it is treated for tax
Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Pedestrian mower finance questions
Is there a point below which it is not worth financing?
There is a practical floor where the paperwork outweighs the benefit, and a single walk-behind often sits near it. That is why we suggest packaging. If you are buying one machine and nothing else this year, tell us the figure and we will give you a straight answer on whether finance makes sense rather than processing it regardless.
Can we include cassettes, groomers and scarifying cartridges?
Yes, provided they are on the dealer invoice with the machines. Cassette systems are a large part of the value on machines like the Dennis range, so leaving them off understates the asset. List every cartridge on the quote before you order. The dealer will usually be happy to reissue the quotation.
Our bowls club is unincorporated. What will the funder need?
The constitution, recent accounts or treasurer’s statement, a committee resolution authorising the purchase, and identification for the officers signing. Some funders ask an officer to support the agreement personally, which committees should discuss before applying rather than be surprised by at signing. Raising it at a committee meeting first avoids an awkward pause later.
Can a school fund these through the same route?
Yes. Independent schools fund groundcare machinery routinely. State schools and academies can too, but the approval route runs through the trust or local authority finance team and takes longer, so start the conversation earlier in the budget year than you think you need to. Late requests are the usual reason a machine misses the season.
Do battery machines fund differently from petrol?
The underwriting is the same, but battery units hold a slightly less established second-hand value because the market is younger and battery condition is hard to verify remotely. It rarely changes whether a deal is approved — it can affect how a funder views the machine late in the agreement.
