Yes. Grading machines are substantial, manufacturer-supported equipment with an international secondhand trade, so funders treat them as a proper hard asset rather than a building fit-out. They are normally funded on hire purchase, with staged payments where the machine is installed over several weeks. Used graders are bought and sold regularly. The point producers should plan for is that a grader is only as useful as the packing centre approval behind it: registration, traceability and retail audit requirements shape the specification, so confirm what your customer expects the line to do before the machine is ordered.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Grading equipment sits in the comfortable middle: it is installed, but it is a self-contained machine that can be dismantled and shipped, and there is a genuine international market in used graders. That gives a funder a recovery route, which is more than they have with most poultry infrastructure. Underwriting focuses on the egg business behind it, in particular whether the output is contracted to a packer or a retailer and how long that relationship has run. Throughput claims are checked against bird numbers. Software and vision systems date faster than the steelwork, so a used machine is valued on whether the manufacturer still supports that generation. Level repayments suit, since egg income arrives continuously.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Free range and barn producers moving from selling loose to their own packer to grading and packing themselves, packing centres upgrading throughput, and producers adding capacity after taking on birds from another site. The decision is usually driven by the margin lost in sending ungraded eggs away, or by a retail customer requiring traceability and crack detection the current line cannot deliver.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Like a machine, which works in your favour. Unlike ducting or concrete, a grader can be disconnected, crated and sold on, and there is an active market for used machines internationally. That recovery route is why funders are more relaxed about graders than about most poultry infrastructure.
You need it before you can legally grade and sell, and a funder will expect to see that the regulatory side is in hand. There is no benefit in drawing money for a line that cannot be used. Get the registration position clear at the same time as you specify the machine.
Chiefly on whether the manufacturer still supports that generation of machine and its software. A mechanically sound grader that cannot be updated or serviced has limited appeal, whereas a supported machine sells readily. Ask the manufacturer directly about support before you commit to a used line.
Yes, where they form part of the same installation and invoice. Egg collection conveyors and elevators are ordinarily funded with the grader. Where conveyors are built into the poultry house structure itself, a funder may ask for the usual acknowledgement from a landlord or mortgage lender.
It helps a great deal. Grading is an investment made to serve a customer specification, so showing the contract or supply agreement tells an underwriter exactly where the repayment comes from. Producers packing for the open market are still funded, but the accounts carry more of the weight.
