Can you finance a yard scraper?

Yes, though the two kinds of scraper are funded quite differently. A loader or tractor-mounted blade is simple equipment with a wide resale market, easily funded but often small enough to belong on the same invoice as the machine that carries it. An automatic alley scraper or a scraper robot is a different proposition: it is installed into a specific building, wired in and configured to that shed, so it is high value relative to its resale and funders lean on the dairy business behind it. Both are routinely approved for a farm with sound accounts.

Used kit: Yes for mounted blades; used automatic systems are funded cautiously and valued low

What would a yard scraper cost per month?

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it

The distinction matters. A mounted scraper blade is a chattel in the plainest sense, sells to any livestock farm and is funded with almost no scrutiny of the asset, the only issue being that its value may be below a funder minimum. An installed scraper system is closer to the fixture end: cables, drive units and channel work are configured to one building and a recovered system is worth little, so underwriting rests on the herd and the milk income rather than on the equipment. Robot scrapers add a software and support dimension, which means manufacturer backing matters to resale. Because livestock income is continuous, level repayments are the norm and seasonal profiles are not needed.

Who buys one

Dairy farms scraping cubicle passages several times a day, where doing it by tractor interrupts cow flow and costs labour, beef units keeping loafing areas clean, and farms responding to a mobility or cell count problem traced back to how long slurry sits on the passage. The trigger is usually cow cleanliness, a foot health issue, or the simple realisation of how many hours a week are spent on a tractor scraping.

How it is treated for tax

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.

Yard scraper finance questions

Is a robot scraper worth financing rather than buying outright?

That is a cash flow judgement. The argument for funding it is that the benefit, cleaner cows and time saved, arrives every day from installation, so spreading the cost matches the benefit. Funders are comfortable with them provided the dairy accounts and milk contract support the payment.

Why is an installed scraper harder to fund than a blade?

Because it is configured to one building. Cables, drive units and channel work fitted to a specific shed have little value to anyone else, so a funder cannot rely on recovering it and looks at the farm instead. A blade can be sold to any livestock farm in the country.

Can a mounted scraper be funded on its own?

Sometimes, but the value is often below where funders start. The usual approach is to buy it with the loader, telehandler or tractor that will carry it, on the same invoice. That makes a single agreement instead of an uneconomic small one.

Does manufacturer support matter on a scraper robot?

Yes, more than on mechanical equipment. A robot depends on software, sensors and a battery system, and an unsupported machine is difficult to keep running and difficult to sell. Ask about support and parts availability before you commit, particularly if you are looking at a used unit.

Will a funder ask about slurry storage capacity?

They may, because scraping more often moves more slurry into the store and capacity is a regulated issue. It rarely affects the scraper decision itself, but if the store is already tight it is worth planning both together rather than solving one problem and creating another.
