Yes, and a timber trailer is one of the more comfortable forestry purchases to fund because it is almost always bought as a complete outfit with a crane, which puts the invoice at a workable value. Hire purchase is the usual structure. Used trailers hold value well: the chassis, bunks and bogie are heavy steel and last, so age matters far less than whether the machine has been overloaded. The thing to get right is drive and braking specification, since a trailer used on steep ground or travelling any distance on the road needs the appropriate setup.
Used kit: Yes, and older trailers remain fundable where the chassis and bunks are straight

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. Timber trailers are genuinely mobile hard assets with buyers across farming, forestry and estate management, so funders are comfortable and underwriting is quick. They look at the chassis and bunks for signs of overloading, the bogie and drive system, and the condition of the crane mounted on it. Because trailer and crane are usually invoiced together, the combined value comfortably clears any minimum, which avoids the bundling problem that affects smaller forestry kit. Contractors are assessed on their work book and the mix of customers; farms on their accounts, since the trailer supports timber the farm already owns rather than generating contract income. Where firewood or timber sales are the justification, evidence of actual sales carries far more weight than woodland volume estimates.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Farms and estates extracting their own timber for firewood, fencing and sale, forestry contractors thinning and clearing woodland, and businesses managing woodland under a grant scheme that requires active management. The purchase is generally prompted by a decision to handle woodland in-house instead of selling standing, or by storm damage leaving a volume of timber that has to be moved.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Almost always, and it should be. Trailers are specified with a matched crane and dealers quote the outfit together, so it funds as one machine. That also lifts the value well clear of any funder minimum, which makes the whole application more straightforward.
It depends on your ground. Driven axles are worth having on steep or soft terrain and make the difference between extracting timber and getting stuck. Funders do not mind either way, but drive specification affects resale, so a drive trailer generally sells more easily than a non-driven one.
Look for signs of overloading in the chassis, bunks and stanchions, check the bogie and drive components, and inspect the crane mounting where the load is transferred. Straight steel and sound hydraulics matter far more than the year, because there is little else to wear out.
It can help explain the purchase, but funders prefer evidenced income. Grant support for woodland management shows the work is planned and funded, which is useful context. Actual sales invoices for timber or firewood do more for the affordability case.
Practically, yes. A trailer travelling on the road needs the right braking, lighting and load security, and enforcement of agricultural trailer roadworthiness has tightened. It is not usually a finance condition, but a trailer that cannot legally be taken on the road is worth less to any buyer.
