Yes, but how it is funded depends on whether the dryer is mobile or installed. A mobile or trailed batch dryer is a normal piece of machinery and funds like any other asset on hire purchase. A fixed continuous flow dryer bolted into a building is different: once installed it may legally become part of the property, so a funder will often want the landlord or the bank holding a charge over the farm to confirm in writing that the equipment remains the funder’s until it is paid for. That waiver is the single thing that delays these deals, so start it early.

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.
Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. CW Asset Finance is an Appointed Representative of Rural Finance Limited, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 630701).
Installed drying plant is underwritten differently to mobile machinery. The equipment itself has a long life but a limited secondhand market, because moving an installed dryer out of a building is expensive, so a funder is lending more against the farm than against the resale of the asset. Expect closer scrutiny of accounts, cropping and storage capacity. Suppliers frequently need stage payments during a summer installation, so the agreement has to be structured around a commissioning date rather than a single invoice, and a funder will want confirmation the plant is installed and working before the final payment is released. Landlord or mortgagee waivers on tenanted and mortgaged holdings are the usual sticking point. Repayments weighted towards post-harvest income are standard.
Examples of the machines we are asked to fund. This is not an exhaustive list — if what you are buying is not here, it does not mean we cannot fund it. Your supplier quote is what the agreement is written against.

Arable farms tired of drying charges and grain rejected on moisture at the merchant, growers who have expanded acreage beyond what their existing dryer can handle in a wet harvest, and farms moving into storing grain to sell later in the season rather than off the combine. The trigger is nearly always one damp harvest where grain came off wet, the dryer could not keep up and the combine had to stop.

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.
Legally it can become a fixture once it is installed, which is why funders ask for a waiver from the landlord or from the bank with a charge over the farm. The waiver simply confirms the dryer remains the property of the funder until the agreement is settled. On owner-occupied land with no mortgage it is usually straightforward.
Usually yes, where the supplier invoices them as part of the project. Groundworks, electrical connection and commissioning are ordinarily fundable alongside the equipment. Purely civil works such as a new concrete base or a building extension may need a different route, and we would look at those separately.
Yes, but it takes longer. Your landlord will need to confirm in writing that the equipment is not theirs by virtue of being installed, and depending on your tenancy agreement you may also need consent for the works. Raise it with the landlord at the same time as you get the quote, not after.
The funder pays the supplier against agreed milestones rather than releasing everything up front, and the agreement normally starts once the plant is commissioned. That protects you, because your repayments are not running while the dryer is still in pieces. It does mean the paperwork is more involved than buying a tractor.
That is a numbers exercise on your own harvest, but the usual argument is not only the drying charge. It is the ability to keep the combine running in a wet harvest and the flexibility to hold grain and sell when the price suits rather than off the field. We can only help with the funding side, but the case is usually built on both.
