Can you finance a feed bin?

Yes, and feed bins are more fundable than most people assume because they are bolted together and stand on a base rather than being built into anything. That keeps them identifiable as equipment, so a funder can lend against them in the ordinary way. They are usually bought in numbers, which is helpful: two or three bins with the augers and load cells on one invoice makes a sensible agreement. Used bins do change hands. The thing to confirm early is the base, since a bin needs a proper foundation and that concrete is a separate cost outside the finance.

Used kit: Yes, though galvanising condition at the cone and boot governs the value

What would a feed bin cost per month?

Business asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what this shows — with the equivalent APR underneath, because the two are not the same number. A quick guide only; your actual rate depends on the asset, term, deposit and lender.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 6.0% flat rate (equivalent to 11.5% APR representative), you would repay around £646 a month; total amount repayable approximately £31,000, of which £6,000 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and may receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. How lenders treat it

Bins sit in the useful category of structures that are not fixtures. Because they are bolted and can be craned off a base and moved, funders treat them as chattels with a working resale market across dairy, pig and poultry. Galvanised condition is what drives value, particularly at the cone and the boot where moisture collects. Where bins are bought as part of a poultry or pig contract build, an underwriter will want to see the integrator or supply agreement behind the enterprise, since that is what pays for them. Augers, flexible feed lines and weigh cells are ordinarily funded on the same agreement. Level repayments suit, because feed use and the income it supports are continuous rather than seasonal.

Who buys one

Dairy farms moving from bagged to bulk feed to cut cost per tonne, pig and poultry units where bins are standard and capacity has to match bird or pig numbers, and beef finishers feeding a blend. The purchase is normally prompted by expansion, by a feed supplier requiring bulk delivery, or by a bin that has corroded at the boot and is no longer discharging cleanly.

How it is treated for tax

Bought on hire purchase, business plant and machinery normally qualifies for capital allowances on the full cost even though you pay for it monthly, which is a large part of why hire purchase is the common structure. On a finance lease you generally set the rentals against profit instead. The rules change between budgets and your position depends on how you trade, so treat this as the direction of travel and get your accountant to confirm the detail before you commit.

Feed bin finance questions

Is a feed bin a fixture?

Generally not. Because it is bolted together and simply stands on a concrete base, a bin can be craned off and moved, which keeps it in the category of equipment rather than becoming part of the land. That is precisely why it funds more easily than a building on the same yard.

Does the concrete base go on the same agreement?

No. Groundworks and concrete are construction rather than equipment and a funder has no way to recover them. Budget for the base separately, and remember it needs to be right, because a bin on an inadequate foundation is a safety problem as well as a finance one.

Can I fund several bins together?

Yes, and it is the usual approach. Units rarely need just one, and putting the bins, augers and weigh cells on a single invoice produces one agreement at a value funders are happy with, rather than several small ones that cost more in arrangement than they are worth.

What condition points matter on a used bin?

The galvanising, especially around the cone, the boot and the auger entry where feed and moisture sit. Surface marks on the barrel matter far less. Also check the ladder, the hoop and the lid mechanism, because they are what an inspector will look at as much as a funder.

Does a poultry or pig contract help the application?

Yes. Where bins form part of a contract rearing or finishing arrangement, the integrator agreement shows an underwriter exactly where the income comes from. Bring it with the application; it does more for the decision than the specification of the bins themselves.
