Agricultural finance has to work around the way farms actually earn. We arrange tractor finance, farm machinery finance and wider agricultural machinery finance for farms and estates across Leeds, York, Harrogate, Wakefield, Selby, Tadcaster & across North & West Yorkshire, with repayment profiles built around harvest and subsidy timing rather than a flat monthly figure that ignores the season.

Agricultural machinery finance

Agricultural machinery finance covers the equipment a farm cannot work without: tractors, combines, balers, sprayers, telehandlers and handling systems. Because the machine holds its value and acts as security, agricultural finance is often available on better terms than unsecured borrowing of the same size.

Tractor finance

Tractor finance is the most common request we see. New or used, main dealer or private sale, the lender will look at the make, hours and age alongside the farm’s trading position. Longer terms are usually available than on lighter equipment because a well-maintained tractor stays valuable.

Farm machinery finance and seasonal repayments

Farm machinery finance does not have to mean equal monthly payments. Several lenders on our panel offer annual or harvest-linked profiles, so the bulk of the repayment falls when the money actually arrives. If cash flow is the constraint rather than affordability, say so — it changes which lenders we approach.

Farm equipment finance and diversification

Farm equipment finance also covers grain dryers, handling and storage, livestock housing and renewables. Diversification projects — holiday lets, farm shops, events — can often be funded on the strength of the wider business rather than the new venture alone.

What lenders assess on farm machinery

Agricultural lenders look at the machine, the land and the trading pattern. Owned acreage strengthens an application considerably; tenanted holdings are funded routinely but the tenancy term matters. Subsidy income counts as income, and a diversified holding with several revenue streams is viewed more favourably than one dependent on a single crop.

Buying at farm sales and auction

A great deal of farm machinery changes hands at dispersal sales, and those do not wait for a finance decision. Get a figure agreed before the sale so you know your ceiling and can settle inside the terms. Send us the lot details in advance and we will tell you what is fundable.

Contractors and contract farming

Agricultural contractors have a different profile from owner-occupiers: higher machinery utilisation, contract income rather than crop income, and a replacement cycle driven by hours. Several lenders on our panel prefer contractor business precisely because the utilisation is documented.

Horsebox finance

Horsebox finance — or horse box finance, however you spell it — sits between vehicle and equestrian lending, and not every lender is comfortable with it. We fund horseboxes for private owners, competition yards and commercial transporters, new or used, on hire purchase or lease.

Fencing, forestry and timber

Estates, fencing contractors and farm woodland businesses run kit that sits outside mainstream agricultural lending — post knockers and post drivers, wood chippers, forestry winches and sawmills. We fund all of it, including diversification into milling your own timber. See tree surgery, forestry and sawmill finance for how those assets are assessed.

What to send us

Send us the machine details and roughly when your income arrives across the year. We will come back with which lenders will fund it and whether a seasonal or harvest-linked profile is achievable. If it is a dispersal sale, tell us the date and we will work to it. No credit check to ask.

How it works

1

Tell us what you need

One quick conversation about the asset and how the repayments need to work.

2

We search 60+ lenders

As an independent broker we find the right structure and rate — not one lender’s products.

3

You get funded

Indicative decisions in as little as 24 hours, then we manage it through to payout.

Estimate your repayments

Asset finance is quoted on a flat rate, so that is what the buttons show, with the equivalent APR beside it. Your exact rate depends on the asset, the term, the deposit and the lender.

Prime is an established, profitable business with clean credit. Specialist covers newer businesses and credit that needs explaining — the asset itself carries part of the risk, which is why finance is often available where an unsecured loan is not.

Representative example: on Hire Purchase, borrowing £25,000 over 48 months at a 5.15% flat rate (equivalent to 9.9% APR representative), you would repay around £628 a month; total amount repayable approximately £30,150, of which £5,150 is the cost of finance. This calculator is for illustration only — it is not a quote or an offer of finance, and the rate and repayments you are offered will depend on the asset, term, deposit and your circumstances. CW Asset Finance is a credit broker, not a lender, and will receive a commission from the lender that funds your agreement. All finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval.

Rates shown are indicative flat rates with the equivalent APR alongside — the two are not the same number. Indicative only and does not constitute a quote or an offer of finance. Subject to status and lender approval.

Frequently asked questions

What is agricultural finance?
Agricultural finance is funding structured for farms and rural businesses, covering machinery, livestock, buildings and diversification. Repayment profiles are often seasonal rather than flat monthly, to match when farm income actually arrives.
Can I get tractor finance on a used tractor?
Yes. Age, hours and make all affect the term and which lenders will consider it, but used tractor finance is common and often funds over a longer period than lighter used equipment.
Can repayments be linked to harvest?
Often yes. Several lenders on our panel offer annual, biannual or harvest-linked profiles so the bulk of the repayment falls after the crop is sold rather than through the growing season.
Do you finance horseboxes?
Yes. We arrange horsebox finance and horsebox loan options for private owners, competition yards and commercial operators, on new or used boxes, through lenders who understand the equestrian market.
Can I finance farm equipment as well as machinery?
Yes. Grain dryers, handling and storage, livestock housing, renewables and diversification projects can all be funded, either individually or as part of a wider facility.
Do you cover my area?
Yes — CW Asset Finance is based in Tadcaster and works with clients Leeds, York, Harrogate, Wakefield, Selby, Tadcaster & across North & West Yorkshire, as well as nationwide.

If your business does not fit a tick box

Plenty of well-run businesses get turned down by a high street computer for reasons that have nothing to do with how they trade — no filed accounts yet, or no limited company behind them. Neither is a credit problem. If one of these is you, there is a page written for it.

What a new-start application needs. Good credit, and no outstanding CCJs or IVAs. Beyond that, lenders want to see one of two things: that you are a homeowner, or that you can evidence income sufficient to service the monthly payments. A deposit in the 10–20% range is normal.

If that describes you, there is a realistic conversation to have. If it does not, we would rather tell you now than run a credit search that leaves a footprint for nothing.

Straight answers

By matching the repayment profile to when the money actually arrives. Farm income tends to land in spikes — post-harvest and subsidy payments — rather than evenly across the year, so a flat monthly Hire Purchase agreement can strain cash flow in the off-months. CW Asset Finance structures seasonal HP agreements with reduced payments through winter and larger payments timed to harvest income, so you get the machinery without tying up working capital reserved for fertiliser, diesel and wages.
